Oregon Dunes KOA is strategically located to be your home base for all
that the Bay Area has to offer. Spend the day in Charleston - Visit and
hike the trails at South Slough Estuary, rent a canoe and paddle the estuary,
or visit Shore Acres and see the botanical gardens or whale watch from
the pavillion. Travel a bit farther on Cape Arago Hwy and walk down to
the tide pools. On your way back, watch the sea lions from the overlook.
The Oregon Coast is famous for its lighthouses.

The South Slough National
Estuarine Research Reserve is located approximately 20 miles from
Oregon Dunes KOA in Charleston, Oregon. An outing to Charleston makes
a wonderful day trip from the campground. The South Slough Estuary is
a natural laboratory, studying tides and marine life, among many other
things. During the summer months, they offer various guided canoe and
kayak tours. Check out their website for more information.

Located approximately 20 miles from the campground in Charleston, Oregon,
Shore Acres
has magnificent botanical gardens and spectacular ocean vistas. No matter
what the season is, there is always something to do at Shore Acres. Rhodies
to Roses, Holiday Light Show, and whale or storm watching covers 12 months
of the year.

at the end of Cape Arago highway are spectacular. On the way watch the
sea lions from the overlook.

Check out Bob's Sportfishing
located in the small boat basin in Charleston, Oregon. They offer 5 hour
bottom fishing trips from March through September. They have a reputation
for a high catch rate and their crew will do their best to assist you
in catching as many fish as possible. It's fun for the entire family!

The Dean Creek Elk Viewing
Area is located three miles East of Reedsport on Highway 38. Visitors
have enjoyed seeing these magnificent animals at Dean Creek for over 2
decades.

The Umpqua
Discovery Center is "an educational and cultural resource for all
ages making active, innovative contributions to preserving the Oregon
'Tidewater Community' experience. Interactive exhibits and programs illustrate
how land, water and people have shaped each other over time."

The Sawdust Theatre
- "From Memorial Day to Labor Day every Friday and Saturday evening is
a celebration - old time melodrama and fun-filled olios. The theater has
been active for more than two decades and features local performers."

Another great place to visit is The
West Coast Game Park, located in Bandon, Oregon. Bandon Wildlife Park,
the original walk-thru Safari, is a great place to take the kids and is
fun for the whole family. It is a wild animal petting park where you can
meet hundreds of uncaged, free roaming wildlife.

Visit The Oregon Connection
for fine myrtlewood gifts. They specialize in clocks, kitchen items, vases,
carved animals, and even myrtlewood putters for golf enthusiasts.

Try out your new myrtlewood putters at the Kentuck
Golf Course overlooking beautiful Coos Bay, located just a few miles
down the road from the campground.

If you enjoy windsurfing, a great place to go is under the historical
McCulough Bridge or Empire Docks. Be sure to bring your wetsuit, because
the water is cold!

There are a number of crabbing and clamming sites just a short drive from
the campground. You may crab at the Empire boat dock, the Charleston docks,
or from a boat. Bays, estuaries, beaches, tide pools, and jetties are

Other popular local activities include salmon fishing and whale watching
at the Shore Acres and Umpqua Lighthouse. The Winston
Wildlife Park is approximately
1 1/2 hours from the campground. This is a great outing for a day - visit
the Remote Bridge and stop by Coquille on the way back from Winston.
You can also check out the
Coos Art Museum or the
Coos County Historical Museum
to learn some interesting facts about the Bay Area. If you are here during
the summer months, there's a chance you might catch the
Oregon Music Festival.
